How we created the Fitness Platform and Its Cloud Infrastructure in record time

Two solutions were developed: an App and a Backoffice, both with adaptable and autonomous structures to create an exceptional fitness streaming experience and intuitive management.

Additionally, the Cloud infrastructure was built from scratch, using AWS CloudFront. This scalable, secure, and cost-effective solution resulted in a robust and personalized platform, aligned with the standards of leading industry players, and completed in just 3 months.

THE COMPANY

Utreino

An online fitness and wellness platform founded by actress Flávia Alessandra and Otaviano Costa.

The app offers a wide range of features to help individuals achieve their health and fitness goals.

This includes a diverse library of workouts tailored to all fitness levels, providing flexibility to be done at home or in the gym.

THE CHALLENGE

To develop a custom and exclusive platform capable of delivering a high-level experience and handling a large volume of access.

CUSTOMIZATION

The White Label model previously adopted by Utreino limited platform customization. The company sought to stand out in the fitness market with a unique visual identity.

It was necessary to create an engaging UX that provided users with a Netflix-style experience.

SCALABILITY

The company’s expansion required a scalable, secure, and robust infrastructure. The White Label model was also an obstacle to meeting this growing demand.

A robust infrastructure needed to be created to support the increasing number of users while ensuring service quality.

AUTONOMY

The Utreino team was not specialized in technical aspects and needed an autonomous solution with an easily adjustable content structure.

It was essential to ensure adaptability to new features in a quick and intuitive way.

White Label is a business model where a product or service is produced and then marketed to other brands, which have the option to customize it in a limited way.

Although initially more accessible and quick, this solution can impact flexibility and customization, as in the case of Utreino, which sought a unique visual identity and greater control over its fitness platform.

Another difficulty is the cloud infrastructure, which is fixed and limited to the structure created by the supplier.

UDS Technology

To meet the customization and high-level user experience requirements, we created the Utreino platform from consolidated source code, designed to adhere to the best practices of streaming services.

This allowed us to fulfill all of the company’s initial requirements.

Infrastructure from Scratch

We used AWS CloudFront, an ideal infrastructure for handling a high number of requests during peak access times, in addition to being stable and cost-effective.

This way, Utreino could run campaigns, launch events, and expand its platform without major setbacks.

Intuitive Management

To ensure that the Utreino team could quickly and intuitively adapt the content of its platform, we developed a dynamic Backoffice designed to be customized.

The platform adapts to accommodate new campaigns and prioritize information without technical assistance.

App

Using a content streaming model, UDS created the mobile fitness platform. Its identity and structure were designed based on the navigation experience promoted by the biggest players in the market, such as Netflix, HBO Max, and Prime Video.

Another differentiator is the quality of image and sound, standards adapted to the business model, also designed for mirroring on other platforms.

Consulting

In this UDS Consulting modality, we built Utreino’s Cloud Computing structure from scratch. To achieve this, we integrated the necessary resources, whether software, hardware, or virtual.

Through Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and Preliminary Testing, we ensured the successful transition to the new infrastructure. We also provided financial support to make the process even more accessible and smooth for the team.

Cloud FinOps

We developed a comprehensive Cloud Financial Management approach following the migration to AWS. We started by defining relevant financial KPIs and implemented tools to monitor and visualize costs in real time, integrating AWS Cost Explorer with custom dashboards in Grafana. To facilitate control, we configured alarms in AWS CloudWatch and customized alerts in Grafana, allowing Utreino to track budget limits and infrastructure performance from a single interface.

Additionally, we optimized the use of services like EC2 and RDS, adjusting them to Savings Plans and Reserved Instances and applying Auto Scaling to ensure efficient resource management according to demand. Monthly reviews were conducted to ensure continuous optimization, keeping costs aligned with operational needs and growth projections.

We also implemented automatic infrastructure adjustment solutions using tools like EventBridge and Auto Scaling, which scale resources up or down based on identified peak and off-peak times.

To maximize savings on storage costs, we applied Intelligent Tiering on Amazon S3, ensuring that stored content is managed efficiently based on usage.

AWS’s CDN accelerates the delivery of static and dynamic content to end users. CloudFront distributes the content through a global network of data centers known as edge locations.

Chosen for Mobile Development, this technology stands out for its ease of integration with native resources. Flutter enables dynamic app creation in a unified development environment. As a result, we optimized production time and reduced costs.
