The United Nations (UN), founded in 1945, is an international organization currently made up of 193 member states. The UN has evolved to keep pace with changes in the world, promoting peace, security, sustainable development, and human rights.
With a robust structure, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) is the second oldest UN agency. It coordinates postal services, promotes communication and the exchange of mail on an international scale by monitoring complete logistics chains.
Monitoring 400+ million items and billions of events in 30+ countries.
Generating visibility on all events involving physical objects.
Measuring the quality of mail operations in different countries, for example, Correios in Brazil.
Global, large-scale, modular, and multi-language software development.
Multidisciplinary squads at UDS worked on the specifications, design, development, testing, and deployment of the new platform to be used in Brazil and dozens of other countries.
Inside the solution solution
A robust, cloud native, modular, and highly scalable software architecture was the basic tenet of the project.
We used the GS1 ELIOT – EPCIS standard to interact with RFID technology and to process management and operational activities on the same platform.
We chose suitable technologies with a view to meeting the UN’s global quality standards and the technical challenge of the project.
We mapped out all the stages of the logistics process: from package delivery at post offices, identification and sorting, separation and storage, to dispatch and distribution management, in order to develop a platform enabling full management of the operation.
We developed a fluid and intuitive interface, improving the overall experience when clients use the system.
The platform was developed with web and mobile operation in mind, enabling efficient, real-time management of the logistics chain.
We implemented RFID technology for complete and thorough traceability of all objects. We produced evidence of all events occurring in the distribution journey by using specific tracking codes.
We created a customized interface that allows you to choose the packaging and to produce labels according to the information provided, optimizing the identification process.
We created monitoring for the logistics chain with a focus on operational efficiency. We developed dashboards with the processing time for each type of package, delivery units and deadlines, ensuring visibility of indicators.
We developed the mobile version to make it easier to manage reports and visualize the logistics chain, offering a comprehensive and accurate view.
We optimized logistics with efficient and constant monitoring. We offered customized support in several countries, facilitating logistics processes and meeting global needs.
Customized support in different countries.
To facilitate deployment and updates in different countries, we created customized material that provides support during the transition from one deployment environment to another, allowing for a swift and efficient process. It can also be quickly adapted to any language.
Monitoring and efficiency in logistics controls:
By using RFID technology, we implemented a precise operational monitoring system that allows efficient access and management of logistics routes and inputs; the end result was the integrated management of the logistics chain.
Increased use of the platforms by staff:
We created modular interfaces that can be adapted to each country’s specific culture and operations. In addition, we optimized user experience with a mobile version of the software.
We improve logistics processes with indicators:
We integrated operational processes to centralize data and to generate strategic indicators. That made it possible to audit logistics processes with reliable, real-time data.
