The Primo Group
Grupo Primo belongs to the biggest financial influencer in Brazil, Thiago Nigro. The company operates on four fronts: education, technology, investment, and media*. All those areas put together pursue the goals of bringing innovation and transforming not only the market with constant advances, but also helping people.
Based on those pillars, the company developed a robust ecosystem which is capable of positively impacting millions of people.
In total, the company currently runs three platforms among the largest in the area of education in the country and also offers one of the largest training courses for businesspeople in the country, EAP. One of those platforms is Finclass, the largest mobile educational system for financial education in Brazil, created by a partnership between UDS and Grupo Primo.
The 1 million challenge
Finclass’s project was bold due to its national and global scope. The idea had existed on paper for many years and had always been considered by CEO Thiago Nigro as a true mission for the company.
The goal was to offer high-level financial education through a mobile application, with a fully scalable architecture, capable of receiving e-books, classes, documentaries, and other products created by Grupo Primo.
To that end, it was also necessary to build a streaming structure with 4K resolution, with cinematic quality that would not freeze, and that guaranteed authorship by ensuring no one would be able to record classes or download content.
The main issue was in developing a platform for distributing high-quality image content at low costs – a tool capable of reaching 1 million subscribers within just one year.
The objective was to be the leading online financial education platform and the closest reference in the segment in the world.
Overcoming obstacles through intense labor on the app’s inner workings
In addition to the challenge of developing the largest mobile financial education platform in the country, and the goal of reaching 1 million subscribers within a year, intense infrastructure work had to be done in order to ensure availability for launching the platform in a live event.
UDS overcame this difficulty by creating a pre-heating system for the infrastructure so that it could be prepared to receive the expected number of people. In that environment, rigorous load tests and scenario simulations were carried out in which a high volume of spectators would be connected.
The Live Event attracted
people to the product launch
The success of the live event was decisive for testing the quality of the final delivery and, of course, for the success of the company’s new project.
What was the development process like?
UDS acted on the following fronts:
In order to develop the application, we used Flutter, a Google framework that allows the creation of apps for iOS and Android.
The definition of the framework was just one of the solutions. Building the Finclass app involved important processes so that the delivery was in accordance with market and customer requirements.
The main focus was on user experience (UX), with plenty of fluidity in menus, tracks, videos, images, and all throughout the app. Furthermore, we designed the infrastructure to offer content with cinematic quality without any downtime.
We increased scalability and opportunities for business expansion, providing web and mobile development that ensured greater platform customization, integration with the Vimeo video player, and facilitated payment via Hotmart.
We included knowledge trails, improved delivery and security on the platform, facilitated teacher-student relationships, and created an area for promoting talents.
“The platform has one of the best learning experiences on the market, where you can watch classes through several devices such as smartphones, desktop computers, tablets, laptop computers, or TV sets.”
The migration included AWS Media Services like Elemental MediaConvert and MediaLive for optimized video processing, and Amazon S3 for secure, durable storage.
Content delivery improved with Amazon CloudFront, providing faster, more reliable streaming with reduced costs.
Enhanced security measures, including IAM and S3 policies, were implemented to protect content.
Cost optimization was achieved through automated scaling, pay-as-you-go pricing, and S3 Intelligent Tiering.
Technologies and solutions used to build the Finclass app
Complete and fully scalable application architecture, capable of receiving e-books, documentaries, online classes, and other products created by the Primo Group.
The partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3, CloudFront, Lambda, MediaConvert, MediaPackage, and Web Application Firewall was responsible for ensuring a complete and fully scalable architecture for the application.
Development of a streaming structure using AWS solutions: we developed a specific video player as the existing solutions on the market would not solve the client’s problem.
The streaming structure is robust and offers cinematic quality content, with no downtime.
We ensured all the security aspects for the intellectual property of course content and videos available on the platform.
Through these solutions, it was possible to deliver an app that is always available and still capable of withstanding high volumes of hits while maintaining low latency.
Participatory management in developing the app
The synergy between the professionals at UDS and the ones at Primo Rico was fundamental. During the platform development phase, we formed a single team, with a lot of integration in the sprints.
Participatory management allowed flexibility to adjust the project in record time and to reduce red tape involved in developing the system.
As a result, UDS made information available for real time monitoring: project milestones, status of ongoing activities and, above all, indicators. This means that there was active and continuous participation in all stages during development of the Finclass application.
The partnership allowed for very swift work and the app was delivered in only 6 months.
Record goals and profits
Within the first 24 hours, Grupo Primo‘s new distance learning platform gained prominence and was the 2nd most downloaded in the education category (second only to Google Classroom) with more than 6,000 simultaneous hits.
In addition to the pre-event work, during the event a UDS team monitored the indicators, ensuring that everything worked correctly.
After the launch, we made the app available on the App Store and Google Play Store.
“Finclass is here to disrupt the current panorama of financial education in Brazil. Money is synonymous with prosperity and security. To transform financial education into an unprecedented experience, we have combined a team of renowned professionals with high technology and a movie experience. Our goal is to give everyone access to the knowledge they need to invest their money better.”
Today, Finclass is the leading financial education streaming platform in the country, with 125,000 students enrolled and over 1 million hits.
In addition to its success as an educational platform, Grupo Primo is also celebrating its revenues: in just one year since its launch, Finclass has generated BRL 130 million in revenue.
The idea of helping people earn money through a knowledge platform has come together with the business’s growing potential to generate profits – and now everything indicates that the sky is the only limit.
